In October, the law league kicked off its inaugural season of everyone’s favorite grade school sport...kickball. Scared Kickless, comprised primarily of attorneys from Heekin, Malin & Wenzel and the Public Defender’s Office, joined seven other teams in the sport’s first season. Not knowing what to expect from a sport no one had played in nearly 20 years, and often having to play through rain and cool weather, Scared Kickless dispatched its opponents to finish the regular season with a stellar 4-1-2 record.
Last week, Scared Kickless met Holland & Knight in quarterfinal playoff action. The sidelines were buzzing with music by Scared Kickless’ own DJ Michael Kalil, also known by the recently developed stage name DJ K Smooth, and cheerleading-on-the-fly by Diana Johnson and non-rostered investor/fan, Tracy Wenzel. Scared Kickless’ clean-up kicker, Nicki Clausing, paced the offense with a home run and triple. Peter Contreras and Antonio Kirkland each made highlight reel diving catches to highlight a stellar defensive effort. A total team effort resulted in a 9-0 final tally that stamped Scared Kickless’ ticket to Championship Tuesday.
The league hopes that word gets out about the party atmosphere and made-for-TV game action to spur a huge turnout for Championship Tuesday at St. Nicholas Park on Spring Park Road. For those of you looking for a break in your hectic holiday schedule, I recommend that you head over to St. Nicholas Park on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. to watch the semifinal and and championship games. Scared Kickless promises several memorable moments as it plays for the law league’s inaugural kickball championship and the bragging rights that come with it. Championship Tuesday will begin with semifinal games at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by the championship game at 7:30 p.m.
