Community involvement: I am a deacon at Christian Family Chapel. I am also currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Project SOS, a local non-profit organization committed to strengthening families by empowering parents and educating youth to make healthy life choices.
Why did you get involved?
As a father of four, I am extremely concerned about the content of the information being pushed on young people by the entertainment industry today. Project SOS confronts kids with the true consequences of making choices about alcohol, drugs, and sex that are glamorized in movies, television, and music. Project SOS also helps parents realize, understand, and handle the decisions that their children have to make. I decided to join Project SOS because I believe in its mission and because I want to have better awareness as a parent.
How would someone else get involved?
If parents want their children to see a program at their school or church, they can contact Project SOS directly or their school and church. We also have informational programs and educational materials for parents. Anyone interested in serving on the board can contact me.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
I have seen the amazing power and energy of young adults (the program presenters are in their early 20s). I have learned the extreme importance of getting the message out. I have also learned more than I ever wanted to know about grants and fundraising.
What was the last book your read or are reading?
I just finished reading “Saint” and am now reading “Sinner” by Ted Dekker (part of a series).
