• The Jacksonville Port Authority’s Dave Kaufman is the guest at Wednesday’s Lunch and Learn at Jacksonville Community Council Inc. Kaufman is the Port’s senior director of planning and properties. The lunch starts at noon at the JCCI offices on Atlantic Boulevard and Kaufman will likely talk about the Port’s plans to build a cruise ship terminal at Mayport.
• If you are looking for an interesting vessel to purchase, the City has one. Feb. 11, the Procurement Division is taking bids for a Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department Marine Vessel. The boat is 65 feet long and bids will be taken starting at 2 p.m. in Suite 335 at City Hall.
• Speaking of the City, its Environmental Protection Board will conduct a public hearing Feb. 9 during which the City’s Green Buildings Initiative will be discussed. According to a legal notice of the meeting, the hearing is to request funding for “training and peripheral matters related to Green Buildings Initiatives.” The meeting is in the training room on the first floor of the Ed Ball Building.
• Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce President Wally Lee is the guest speaker at Wednesday’s meeting of the Southside Businessmen’s Club. The group meets at 12:30 at San Jose Country Club.
• Treating yourself to dinner on Friday night doesn’t have to cost so much. Michelle’s Southern Home Cooking on Beach Boulevard is offering Delmonico Steak and two sides for $10.
• Five Points Theatre on Park Street will show “Slumdog Millionaire” later this month and there’s the potential for free popcorn. The movie, which recently won four Golden Globes, will run Jan. 23-31 and if you got the on-line coupon you get free popcorn the whole week.
• The Justice Coalition is looking for sponsors for its 7th Annual “Together We Can” campaign breakfast Feb. 9 at the Fraternal Order of Police headquarters on Beach Boulevard. The annual fundraiser features local law enforcement officials, businesses and those who have been victims of violent crimes.
