The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is challenging local businesses to raise money for the animal welfare and education center’s first annual Trail of Tails: Pet Walk & Festival set for Feb. 28. The company that raises the most money for the event will name the adoption center’s cat cabana.
“This fun event offers a great chance for Jacksonville businesses to enjoy some friendly competition for a great cause,” said Leona Sheddan, executive director of JHS. “Corporate teams of four or more people can register for the walk and create donation pages. The team that raises the most money for JHS can name our cat cabana. The winners could choose to name the room after their company or organization.”
The team that raises the second highest amount of money for JHS will name the puppy room. The team in third place will get to name the cattery. Naming rights for this competition are good for the organization’s current adoption center only.
In the cat cabana, felines live together in one room. There are no cages in the cat cabana. All puppies live in kennels in the puppy room prior to adoption, and cats live in condos in the cattery while awaiting adoption.
Walkers in the Trail of Tails: Pet Walk & Festival can register at www.jaxhumane.org prior to the walk. Through www.firstgiving.com/jaxhumane, walkers can create sponsorship pages and invite friends to donate money for their walk.
The walk kicks off at 10 a.m. and will start and end at Friendship Fountain Park. The entry fee is $25 per person for team members while the individual entry is $30 per person. Animals walk with their owners for free. For more information about the Trail of Tails: Pet Walk & Festival, please visit www.jaxhumane.org.
“At least five of my co-workers are participating in the walk,” said Michelle King, public relations director at Burdette Ketchum. “As a group, we have already raised nearly $500 for JHS just by asking friends and family for donations. We are all excited to support a great cause.”
