• City Council members Clay Yarborough and John Crescimbeni spent part of their afternoon Monday in the heat for a facilities tour of The Ft. Caroline Club regarding the possibility of Stanton College Preparatory School using the club to set up its rowing program. It’s nowhere near a final decision on such a topic, said Yarborough’s executive aide Angela Ryan, as public input on the potential change is still needed and its feasibility is still unknown.

• The City’s Memorial Day ceremony was several weeks ago, but Vice President Joseph Biden was on the invite list. In a June 15 letter he thanked Mayor John Peyton for the invitation.

• With the passing of June into July, so does the “Community” aspect of Florida Community College at Jacksonville. As of Wednesday, the school officially became Florida State College at Jacksonville.

• Speaking of the school, Celine McArthur is the new director of community relations. You remember her has a former news anchor and investigative reporter for Ch. 47.

• The UPS Store on Hogan Street has added another new service. For $1 per pound, documents that need to be shredded may be dropped off in a secure container which is picked up and processed by Iron Mountain.

• Those of you hoping to attend one of the upcoming St. Johns Water Management District’s public meetings on the development of the 2010 District Water Supply Plan and review of the 2008 District Water Supply Assessment will have a little driving to do. The closest meeting is in Palatka (District headquarters, July 9 at 10 a.m.) with other meetings taking place in Orlando (July 17), July 24 (Vero Beach) and Gainesville (Aug. 20). • An employee at the Landing’s bookstore said the store will finally close for good in a couple of weeks. Until then, the store is selling for $10 all the books you can jam into a small bag or for $20 all the books you can fit into a larger bag.

• Speaking of the Landing, the Sports Mania across from Nine West is open. The store is heavy on Jaguars, Gators and Seminoles gear.
