With filing cabinets and boxes full of paper work in hand, movers and City workers made the continuous shuffle across Laura Street between City Hall and the new Jake M. Godbold City Annex all day Friday.

Though bits and pieces had been moved earlier, Friday marked moving day for the first tenants of the Godbold Annex.

The former Haverty’s building is owned by the Police & Fire Pension Fund and leased to the City, with the recently completed $11 million restoration project shared between the two entities.

The first tenants included the City’s Environmental and Compliance Department located on the third floor and City Pension Department on the first floor, with workers from both offices rolling up their sleeves and taking to the task.

“It’s gone by fast and didn’t take too long,” said Bettie Green of the City’s Pension Department, which is moving into space on the first floor.

The all-day affair wasn’t too tough, though, said other numerous workers and one of its newest tenants who will claim the new locale as her workspace was excited to finally settle in.

“This is really nice,” said Rosa Morales of the City’s Environmental & Compliance Department, while unloading some belongings in her third floor workspace. “It’s almost like moving in to a new home.”
