• Several months following the success of the “Guns ‘N Hoses” charity boxing event, local police and firefighters will continue their friendly rivalry but switching out gloves. Instead of knocking each other’s heads around, they’ll take the field at the Baseball Grounds Saturday prior to the Jacksonville Suns game for a charity softball game to benefit numerous local charities. Game time is 5 p.m., with the Suns playing at 7:05 p.m. A Suns ticket gets you into both events.

• Wendy Priesand has left her position as director of sales at the Omni Hotel to spend time with her family. Until a replacement is named, Michael Black is serving as interim director of sales.

• Clarification to a City Note from Monday. State Rep. and attorney Charles McBurney was honored by the Florida Bar Association with its Distinguished Service Award for enhancing business law in Florida, not the business of law.

• Brittany Burnes has been promoted by the Jacksonville Humane Society to special events manager. Now, she’ll oversee the Humane Society’s three big annual events: Trail of Tails Pet Walk & Festival, the Fur Ball and Toast to the Animals wine tasting.

• Barnett’s Jewelers at Independent Square is having an “anniversary sale.” The store is celebrating 33 years doing business at the location. Barnett’s opened its doors the same day the ribbon was cut at the former “Independent Life Building.”

• Thursday evening the Hyatt in conjunction with “Make a Scene Downtown” is hosting a “Pool Splash” party on the hotel’s riverfront deck. You’ll find drink specials, live music, food and prizes. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. and admission is free. The Crowne Plaza on the Southbank will host a similar soiree on its pool deck July 30.
