The YLS is having its annual meeting and reception at the Haskell Building July 16 at 5:30 p.m. The Meeting will be hosted by MTV and sponsored by Red Bull and Chico’s Bail Bonds. Be sure to arrive early to ensure you don’t miss any of the surprise entertainers (I am sworn to secrecy, but P-Diddy is a friend of mine). There will also be several “Survivor-style” competitions sure to entertain, including the break dance finals between Smith Hulsey and Rogers Towers. Finally, the event will be concluded with an open microphone freestyle rap competition open to all area attorneys. The winner will receive a year’s worth of beef jerky and a Nintendo Wii.
Okay, back to reality . . .
In fact, the YLS is having its annual meeting and reception on July 16. All attorneys ages 35 and below or those who have been practicing for five years or less are invited and strongly encouraged to join us as we celebrate yet another successful year for the YLS. The meeting will conclude with the election of four new members to the board of governors to serve this upcoming year.
Voting for the election of the new board members will officially begin on July 9 at the Jacksonville Bar office. Ballots may be cast at the Bar office through 4:30 p.m. on July 16 or from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Haskell Building. The election results will be announced immediately thereafter.
If you are interested in running for one of these openings on the Board, you still have time to sign up. All candidates must register for the election and choose the seat for which they are running by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1. Please contact Lee Wedekind at [email protected] to register or if you have any other questions. All candidates will be required to perform an interpretative dance explaining what the YLS means to them at the Annual Meeting.
The YLS annual meeting is destined to be the best event of the season. All those who attend will forge lasting memories that will rival those of your high school prom or super sweet sixteenth birthday party (and there will be free drinks). If you fit the requirements of YLS membership, you should definitely take advantage of a priceless opportunity to network and spend time with other young lawyers in the Jacksonville community (and see P-Diddy).
Due to the tremendous support of the Jacksonville legal community, the event will be free to all members of the YLS and summer associates. Thank you to the firms and legal vendors who have already committed to help sponsor the event. Additional sponsorship opportunities are also available. If your firm or business is interested in sponsoring the YLS annual meeting or if you have any additional questions, please contact Christian George at [email protected].
Want to get involved? The YLS is still seeking applications for commissioners for each of the Jacksonville Bar sports leagues. If you are interested, please contact President-elect Kirby Oberdorfer at [email protected]. Please include your contact information and the sport league or leagues for which you are interested in acting as commissioner.
