• City Council will honor through framed resolutions a couple of local icons Tuesday evening: University of North Florida baseball coach Dusty Rhodes for being inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and Ch. 4 chief meteorologist George Winterling for his 47 years with the station.

• Speaking of Council, the mayor’s office and Council member Art Shad are asking the City to approve a no cost lease for the former South Jacksonville City Hall on Hendricks Avenue to Greenscape Jacksonville. The initial lease is five years with three, five-year renewal options.

• Folio Weekly isn’t the only one having trouble getting public records from the City. Linda Rice Chapman, interim city manager for Hawthorne, Fla., has been after records since April 28. According to Chapman, the City hasn’t even responded, never mind fulfill the request.

• Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. (JCCI) is hosting “Issues and Answers” Thursday at noon at 2434 Atlantic Blvd. (across the street from Bishop Kenny and Assumption School). Also known as the “Brown Bag Series” the topic this time is “STDs and HIV: How Can We Stop the Epidemic?” The guest speaker is Chip Seamen, STD program manager for the Duval County Health Department. The community is invited to attend and bring a brown bag lunch. Desserts and beverages will be provided. RSVP to 396-3052, ext. 17.

• The Bench, the Jacksonville Bar Association and their families are invited to try out for the 2nd Annual “There Oughta Be a Law” variety show. Auditions are Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and July 11 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at St. John’s Cathedral Downtown. The show is Oct. 22 at the Times-Union Center. Last year’s event raised $18,000 to benefit Jacksonville Area Legal Aid. To register for an audition call Patty Dodson at 838-2524 or e-mail [email protected].
