• Stephen Canty is the new president of Leadership Jacksonville, succeeding Ben Bishop. Canty is from the LJ class of 2005 and he’s the president/owner of Canty Insurance Services/Brightway. The president-elect is Nancy Kilgo, director of government relations for JEA.

• Speaking of Leadership Jacksonville, the organization will mark its 20th anniversary Sept. 29 at the Hyatt during its annual reunion luncheon.

• There won’t be any shuffling of City Council members or their aides this year. Council President-elect Richard Clark has decided not to move anyone around when he officially takes over July 1.

• Speaking of Clark, he has decided on his standing committee assignments, but won’t announce them until after he’s sworn in Wednesday.

• Healthy Jacksonville, the countywide community based initiative coordinated by Duval County Healthy People 2010, is losing one of its key members. Director Dana Fields-Johnson’s last day was Friday, as she is leaving the state and taking a position in California.

• The economy has affected even the venerable Ruth’s Chris Steak House at the Crowne Plaza hotel. The restaurant is currently offering an 11-ounce prime New York strip steak with shoestring potatoes for $19.95 Sunday-Wednesday.

• Jacksonville’s Charter Revision Commission will hold a public hearing June 30 from 4-6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, but citizens are invited to submit Charter-related suggestions before the meeting by e-mail at [email protected]. The meeting’s purpose is to take input from the public on suggestions for areas of the City Charter deserving of study by the commission or on proposals for specific amendments to the City Charter. Commission chair Wyman Duggan said each person will be allowed three minutes to speak and the meeting will last as long as it takes to hear everyone who wishes to participate.
