• City Council President-elect Richard Clark has announed his 2009-10 standing committee appointments. • Attorney Charles Jimerson has opened The Jimerson Law Group in Riverside. His practice areas include business law, creditor’s rights and construction litigation with a particular emphasis on commercial accounts receivable collection. Jimerson is formerly of Tritt Henderson
• City Council President-elect Richard Clark has called a special meeting for July 13 during which Mayor John Peyton will present the City’s 2009-10 budget. It’s at 10 a.m. in Council Chambers and the public is welcome to attend.
• In one of his first official decisions, Clark has moved the regular Council agenda meetings from a conference room in the Council offices to the Council Chambers. They start at 3 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.
• The recent City auction generated about $650,000 including sale of all the surplus Harley Davidson motorcycles, a couple of ambulances and a fire truck.
• Jacksonville Fire & Rescue has promoted 34 firefighters, including seven new captains. And after 25 years at Station 1 – known as “The Rock” – and 32 years in total with JFRD, Eng. Mike Brandle has retired. He was nicknamed “Smokey” because he did all the cooking at the station for his shift.

• The Museum of Science & History has suspended its cosmic concerts for a short while. New Executive Director Maria Hane said she is looking at upgrading the star projector and would like to add to the popular cosmic concert program list.

• The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens concludes its Summer Garden Concert Series with a performance by the St. Johns River City Band Saturday at 7 p.m. The concert will feature American favorites to coincide with the City of Jacksonville’s Independence Day fireworks. Guests may bring blankets, chairs, food and alcoholic beverages. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase. Admission is $10 per person, free for children under three years of age.
