• It’s The Players week and active duty and retired military personnel can see the annual tournament in person for free. For competition rounds Thursday–Sunday, military personnel get in free with proper identification, but family members must purchase a “Prime Time” ticket for $25 with the money benefitting the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. For military personnel and their families who want to see the event all day, they must purchase a “Prime Time” that will be upgraded to a Daily Island Club ticket, with access to the hospitality tent. • Schedule changes went into effect Monday for JTA Trolleys. One significant to the Bay Street Trolley will be its frequency during off peak hours of 9:30 a.m.– 2:30 p.m. The bus will arrive at stops every 30 minutes instead of every 15 minutes.
• David Durrett, former advertising vice president for the Dalton Agency, has opened a new business. “YES YOU CANVAS!” is a retail art-instruction studio in the Lakewood Shopping Center on San Jose Blvd. The first class will be Thursday at 7 p.m. Space can also be reserved for private functions. • Downtown Vision, Inc. has announced three newly elected members to its board of directors: Debbie Buckland is senior vice-president and manager for SunTrust Commercial Banking Group in North Florida. She was previously with Wachovia as the business banking director for North Florida. James Craig II is a commercial real estate lawyer with Rogers Towers specializing in acquisition and disposition of real property and landlord/tenant negotiations. Dan King is general manager of the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront and president of the North Florida Hotel and Lodging Association, vice-chair of Visit Jacksonville’s executive board of directors, a Chamber of Commerce Trustee and a member of the Gator Bowl Committee.
• In an effort to obtain customer feedback, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation has launched a preview of enhancements to the department’s Web site, MyFloridaLicense.com. The new design is intended to make the Web site more user-friendly and to provide simple ways for consumers to find licensing information and requirements through detailed descriptions and helpful check lists and consumers are invited to provide feedback about the enhancements. • The Jacksonville Journey Oversight Committee Metrics and Measurements Subcommittee meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.
• Continental Airlines will begin nonstop service between Jacksonville and Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport beginning June 1. The new service will depart Jacksonville International Airport at 12:55 p.m. and arrive in Gulfport-Biloxi at 1:34 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Flights from Gulfport-Biloxi will depart at 10:00 a.m. and arrive in Jacksonville at 12:24 p.m.
