• The Jacksonville Jaguars and JTA have announced the return of the Stadium Shuttle Service for this season’s Jaguars games. The lots in outlying areas (suburban lots) will be Philips Highway at J. Turner Butler Boulevard, Marbon Road and San Jose Boulevard and the Little League baseball park at Wingate Park on Penman Road south of Beach Boulevard. The Downtown lots at the Osborn Center and Kings Avenue Parking Garage will remain the same. The Marbon and Wingate lots will not be available for preseason games. The rates for riding the service will be: From suburban lots, $96 for a season shuttle pass or $12 for a single game. From Downtown lots, $56 for a season shuttle pass or $7 per game. Passes will be available in July.
• The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People reaches 100 years this summer. Locally, the event will be marked by the Jacksonville Branch of the NAACPs’ 44th Freedom Fund dinner June 23 at the Osborn Center. Dr. Cornel West, professor of religion and African-American studies at Princeton, is the guest speaker.
• The Junior League of Jacksonville has elected its 2009-2010 leadership team: Andrea Rizzi, president; Denise Hudmon, president-elect; Kim Slaveski, secretary; Rhonda Williams, treasurer; Kristie Schrader, legal counsel; Cindy Berszenyi, nominating chair; Melissa Morgan, parliamentarian; Meg Sacks, Community Council director; Patricia Haeberle, Training and Development Council director; Angie Calvert, Finance Council director; Dana Baker, Membership Council director; Elizabeth Green, member-at-large, community and planning; and Janet Reagor, Sustainer Council director. As a trained volunteer force, the JLJ provides more than 15,000 volunteer hours annually to local non-profits as well as its own community initiatives. The organization has raised and donated more than $1.3 million to the Jacksonville community since its founding in 1923.
