The deadline for applying for an opening on the bench of the Fourth Judicial Circuit was Monday and 24 applications were received by the Circuits Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC).

The JNC is schedule to meet Nov. 10 to interview all candidates before developing a list of 3-6 candidates to send to Governor Charlie Crist by Nov. 17 for him to appoint a replacement for the late Judge Peter Fryefield.

“It will be a long day,” said Ava Parker, chair of the JNC, “but we think it is important to give everyone a chance to be heard.”

The applicants include:

County Court Judge Roberto Arias, attorney Suzanne Bass, Thomas Beverly of the Office of General Council, County Court Judge Tyrie Boyer, attorney Frederic Buttner (Ran against Virginia Norton), Assistant State attorney Mark Borello, attorneys John Cascone, Alan Chipperfield, Steven Combs, Paul Daragjati, County Court Judge Pauline Drake, Assistant State Attorney for the Seventh Circuit Mose Floyd, attorney for Nassau County David Hallman;

County Court Judge Russell Healey, attorneys Corinne Hodak, Thereasa Hunnewell, Harvey Jay, Nancy Kemner, Don Lester, Donald Mairs, Blane McCarthy, James Pimentel, William Scott and Rhonda Peoples-Waters.

Applicants will have the option to forward their applications on to a second selection process that was created by the resignation of Circuit Court Judge Michael Weatherby, which will take effect in February 2010. Applications for the second opening will begin to be accepted this week and Crist has requested the second list of candidates be submitted by Dec. 14.
