• Alex Sink, Florida CFO and Democratic candidate for governor, has spent some time on the First Coast this month — and she’ll be spending a little more, soon. In addition to the fundraiser and appearance on behalf of the Junior Achievement of North Florida program last Thursday, Sink will be in town Oct. 30 with the Jacksonville Association of Firefighters for a meet-and-greet at the group’s hall in Riverside. Donations for the event are $50 and go toward Sink’s campaign.

• There will be even more reason for marsh enthusiasts to enjoy Marsh Fest ‘09. Hosted by the Marsh Preservation Society, Atlantic Beach and North Florida Land Trust, the Nov. 14 festival features exhibitions, live music and prizes but also will celebrate the addition of 345 acres of land formerly known as River Branch Preserve. It’s now referred to as the “Buckman-Pritchard” land and will connect two Atlantic Beach parks as well as complete a state saltwater paddling trail. The festival is on Dutton Island Preserve with free admission and will run from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. For more information, contact Maria Mark at 707-3584.

• Purchase at least $20 worth of art, food or fresh produce from a single vendor at the Riverside Arts Market (RAM) Saturday and you’ll receive a tote bag provided by ReStore Jacksonville and First Guaranty Bank. It has a pocket designed for an iPhone and is made of natural, renewable cotton.
