As a result of the announced retirement of Circuit Court Judge Michael R. Weatherby, there will be a vacancy on the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court in and for Duval County.

Judicial applications for this Circuit Court vacancy must be received before 5 p.m. Nov. 13, at the following location:

Ava Parker, Lawrence & Parker PA, 101 E. Union St., Suite 200, Jacksonville, Fla. 32202.

Applications delivered after the deadline will not be considered. All applicants must have been members of The Florida Bar for at least five years, electors of the state of Florida, and be residents of the Fourth Judicial Circuit prior to taking office.

If you submitted an application for the vacancy created by the untimely death of Judge Peter J. Fryefield, you may submit a letter requesting that we also consider the same application for the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Michael R. Weatherby. You do not have to submit a new application for the second vacancy.

The Judicial Application (which can be obtained from The Florida Bar Web site at www.Floridabar.org) must include:

• An original and nine copies of the application;

• A recent photograph should be attached to the original and each copy;

• All letters of recommendation in your possession that you wish the Commission to consider. However, these letters may also be sent as supplements, after the application is submitted;

• Copies of the applicant’s completed Federal Income Tax returns for the preceding three years or current financial statement and financial history.

(Note: If you are practicing law as a professional association, your tax returns for the three-year period should include the tax returns for the professional association.).

• Any additional information that may be helpful to the Commission in assessing the applicant’s qualifications.

Please organize these materials into an original and nine copy sets.

It is suggested that you submit your application as soon as it is prepared and well before the deadline.

After the deadline for submitting applications, the Commission will determine which applicants to interview. If you are to be interviewed, you will be contacted to confirm the date, time and location.

All proceedings of the Commission are open to the public except for deliberations. Accordingly, you should not expect your application and/or information to be kept confidential.

If an applicant is nominated, all materials attached to the original application will be submitted to the governor.

If there is any question about the applications process, please contact Parker, at the address indicated above.

A list of members of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission is available from www.floridabar.org.
