• Jim Citrano, managing director of CB Richard Ellis, is up for appointment to the Jacksonville Port Authority’s board of directors. He’ll replace William Mason and serve until Sept. 30, 2013.
• Wachovia is doing its part to help the local public school system. According to North Florida Regional President Scott Coble, area Wachovia employees recently spent an entire day distributing school supplies through the Duval County Teacher Supply Depot. Also, the Wachovia Foundation has donated $250,000 to Teach for America. Those funds help recruit and train 100 teacher for the 2008-10 school years.
• The next board meeting of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra is set for Sept. 17 at 12:30 p.m. at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts.
• Speaking of the Symphony, it’s looking for at least a $5,000 contribution from its board members. However, in anticipation of budget cuts from the City and State, board chair Chris Doerr has asked board members to up their donation by 20 percent. Doerr has set a goal of $550,000 from the JSO board for this year.
• Former Mayor Jake Godbold and the Hubbard House Board of Directors will hold the 15th Annual Barbara Ann Campbell Memorial Breakfast Oct. 6 at the Hyatt. Seating begins at 7 a.m. For more, call 354-0076, ext. 212.
• The Jacksonville Economic Development Commission and the Jacksonville Aviation Authority will co-host the 10th anniversary of Cecil Field/Cecil Commerce Center Sept. 28. The milestone will include a 10:30 a.m. groundbreaking for an aircraft coating/MRO educational facility.
• Along with the start of a new college football season, fans of both the Florida Gators and Charleston Southern Buccaneers enjoyed a new food option Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Everglades BBQ opened under the student section on the east side of the stadium and offered turkey legs and pulled pork smoked on-site 18 hours before the game. The concept was developed by Boston Culinary Group and also operates at Landshark Stadium and the University of Central Florida.
• The Northeast Florida Paralegal Association will celebrate its 25th Anniversary Sept. 17 at its annual meeting. Elections of 2009-2010 board officers and awards ceremony will take place at the meeting at the Hyatt 5:30 p.m. To celebrate the milestone, a time capsule that was created during the organization’s first year will be opened.
• The Northeast Florida Builders Association Margaritaville Gala is scheduled for Friday at Metropolitan Park starting at 6:30 p.m. The annual charity gala for Builders Care will feature a grand prize giveaway drawing for a trip for two to Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas. • Jacksonville Community Council Inc. is launching a new, and money-smart, forum in October as part of its fall programming. “Dollars + Sense: Investing in Your Financial Freedom” begins Oct. 1 and run from 5:30–7 p.m at JCCI headquarters.
• Customers at Panera will be able to experience some new tastes while benefitting a local charity Thursday, when local stores of the national restaurant change will offer samples of Panera’s new menu items. For every loaf of bread or half dozen or more bagels customers buy Thursday, Panera Bread will donate a portion of the proceeds to Children’s Home Society.
