Their work begins in earnest next week with the start of their 2009-10 issue forum, but members of Jacksonville Community Council Inc. Forward initiative spent Thursday evening at the Florida Theatre officially kicking off their season.

The organization, part of JCCI with a focus on engaging young future community leaders, tries to host 2-3 meet-and-greet socials each year to help newer members learn more from their peers and build a greater camaraderie, said JCCI Forward Chair Lee Brown.

“These young people are dedicated to engaging in real community issues,” said Brown. “We try to host at least a couple of these each year, with the first usually before our first forum of the year.”

The five-week forum, “Dollars & Sense” begins Oct. 1 and will feature discussion on how conventional wisdom on financial planning, budgeting and investing has changed.

What hasn’t changed, said Brown, is the dedication of the young and emerging leaders dealing with complex issues. There is one common factor among both meetings and the forums, regardless of issue, though.

“We always have fun,” he said, smiling.
