• The U.S. Census Bureau is looking for help from the City in getting an accurate population count of Jacksonville next year. They want a list of “city-style addresses for housing units” for which construction began in March and will be completed by April 1, which is Census Day.
• It’s a fifth week for City Council, so there are no regularly scheduled meetings. They’ll pick up Monday with meetings of the Rules, Finance and Public Health & Safety committees.
• The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and members of Hubbard House will join together Wednesday to officially commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which begins Thursday. It will also serve as the formal release of the 2008 Domestic Mortality Review Report, which examines the domestic violence homicides in Duval County last year.
• Who said video games don’t serve a purpose? Jaguars offensive lineman Uche Nwaneri is teaming up with Sneakers Sports Grille and Gamestop video game stores to kickoff “Gaming 4 The Cause” to benefit daniel, the local nonprofit child-service agency. The events, held every other Tuesday from 6–8 p.m. during football season, allow players to compete in different video games for prizes, with an entry fee of $10 going toward the nonprofit.
• The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus will begin its 2009-10 season with a performance with baritone Leon Williams Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at St. Johns Country Day School in Orange Park. Now in its 14th season, the JCC serves hundreds of children ages 6 weeks to 18 years through its outreach programs and its performance choirs that rehearse weekly in five locations throughout the area.
