For 22 years, the Girls Scouts of Gateway Council has honored women who have made significant contributions in business and community service. This year’s “Women of Distinction” honorees were recognized Wednesday. They were (standing) Shahla Masood, M.D., chair of the Department of Pathology at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville; Karen Bowling, co-founder and CEO of Solantic walk-in urgent care clinics; and Julia Taylor, director of Boutique and Agenda at Stein Mart, and (seated) Carole Poindexter, president of Baker Distributing Co.; Norma White, president of the Duval Retired Educators and a former band director and assistant principal in Duval County Public Schools; and Sandra Cook, a community volunteer who is chair of the WJCT Public Broadcasting board of trustees and a founding member and past president of the Women’s Giving Alliance. Selection for the honor is based on accomplishments in careers and community service that exemplify the values of Girl Scouts. More than 650 people attended the awards event at the Hyatt.
