“Two weeks ago when I presented my teenage dating violence in education bill (HB 467) for the first time. A family member from an Orlando family that had been impacted by the the topic was in town and spoke on behalf of what the impact could be. The response was a pleasant surprise and they voted unanimously. It was a moment that told me legislators do have a heart.”
Least favorite legislative moment
“When Senate Bill 6 (the teacher-pay bill) was introduced and the eight introduced amendments that would make a bad bill better failed.”
On stimulus money
“If it were not for stimulus dollars, we would be in a bigger mess. Those dollars were for the betterment of the people.”
On the budget
“I look at the budget as an opportunity to take a look and concentrate on what has worked for us and what hasn’t, then make fact-based decisions that will shape our future.”
How she de-stresses
“By praying. And when I come home, spending as much time as I can with my 5-year-old godson.
Guilty pleasure
“Watching ‘CSI: Miami.’ I enjoy it a lot and I can sit down and watch it all night long if there is a marathon on.”
