• The Jacksonville labor force might see a slight slowdown in productivity after noon. The chicken and waffles plate at the Metro Diner has become so popular that the eatery has made it available during lunch. It consists of half a fried chicken and a waffle with strawberry butter.

• Jacksonville Aviation Authority CEO Steven Grossman speaks to the NAIOP Northeast Florida chapter at lunch May 1 at the Jacksonville Marriott in Southpoint. Info: www.naiopnefl.com.

• JaxParks’ Cecil Aquatic Center will be closed April 30 through May 2 to repair a crack in the pool’s filtration system. The pool is scheduled to reopen May 3. The center is an indoor facility, including an Olympic-size pool and a smaller recreation pool, and is open year-round.

• “Chicks, Checks & Charity” will be discussed at the Association of Fundraising Professionals meeting May 12. Studies show that women control 60 percent of the charity giving in the United States. Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade CEO Debi Harris will speak at the lunch program. Information: www.afpfirstcoast.org.

• Mayor John Peyton doesn’t plan to attend but was invited by Amtrak to take a May 1 inspection trip over the Florida East Coast Railway between Miami and Jacksonville. Amtrak President and CEO Joseph Boardman said the idea is to bring public officials onboard to discuss development of intercity passenger rail as a way to “address highway and aviation congestion, protect the environment and enhance economic development.”
