How did you get involved?
Through the outreach of the relentless and hardworking folks at Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA).
How can someone else get involved?
Get on JALA’s e-mail lists. They will e-mail you about events and you can do as much as or as little as your schedule permits.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
There are a lot of folks in Jacksonville who are frightened and overwhelmed by a legal issue and simply need someone to point them in the right direction or give them some advice. JALA and local volunteers are doing great work through a comprehensive array of programs to address the wide range of our community’s legal needs regardless of their resources or the value of their claims. The “Ask-A-Lawyer” program is one of many innovative JALA programs and I was honored to participate in it. I also think the program does a lot for the reputation of our profession in the community. If you’ve got some time and/or money, spend it with JALA.
