It’s lunch time. You really want something from the menu at Chew or Burrito Gallery but there’s no way you’re going to get away from the office today. What do you do?

You can call Velo Foods and have your favorite midday repast delivered on two wheels.

The brainchild of Chew Manager Richard Reichstadter and powered by cycling enthusiasts Matt Bort and Joe Gaskin, it’s a human-powered convenience that’s catching on Downtown.

“We started talking to people and they said they would order food if we could deliver it,” said Gaskin. “It’s instant gratification. If you want it you can get it.”

Velo Foods delivers from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Selections from Burrito Gallery are available al a carte on impulse while the Chew side of the business is about catering office lunches and requires 24 hours notice.

“We’re excited,” said Chew owner and executive chef Jonathan Insetta. “It’s a very forward-thinking idea.”

Delivery is available to Downtown destinations ($3 charge for orders under $25, $6 for orders over $25) and to 5 Points ($9 and $12). Call 358-2922 to set the wheels in motion.
