Rotary welcomes members back for first meeting of 2010
Despite the chilly 30- and 40-degree temperatures Monday, the Rotary Club of Jacksonville welcomed its members back from the holiday weekend for its first meeting of the new year.
Prior to the event’s keynote speaker, Rotary member Jim Bailey introduced the organization’s newest honorary member U.S. Appeals Court Judge Gerald Tjoflat at the Monday luncheon at the Omni. Tjoflat has been a member of the Jacksonville legal community since he began private practice in 1957. He joined the Fourth Judicial Circuit Bench in 1968, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida in 1970 and U.S. Court of Appeals in 1975. Tjoflat currently presides over a courtroom in the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Jim Woods followed Bailey’s introduction with a presentation of the afternoon’s guest speaker, Rotarian and Psychiatrist Dr. Atul Shah also a Rotary member, who spoke on the topic of bipolar disorder.
Over 100, including members and guests, attended the luncheon.
