• During yesterday’s House session, the Senate bill that would rename numerous Jacksonville roadways after area public officials passed 115-0. The bill creates the Jim King Memorial Parkway after the late State Sen. Jim King and names interchanges for the late State Rep. Don Davis and former Jacksonville Mayor Hans Tanzler.
• Speaking of King, one of his efforts during his last session in 2009 came closer to completion during yesterday’s House session. House Bill 53 would create a St. Johns River license plate and passed the floor with a vote of 115-0.
• Also on the license plate front, the House passed the creation of an “Endless Summer” license plate 115-0. Fees will be used toward the preservation and promotion of surfing as a sport.
• A bill filed by State Rep. Mia Jones that would make health education in public middle and high schools include components on teen dating and violence passed through its first committee last week. The measure, CS/HB 467, went through the Pre-K–12 Policy Committee and has yet to be placed on the House’s Education Policy Council agenda.
