How did you get involved?
A client of mine, whose ethics and professionalism greatly impressed me, got me involved. He always wore his Rotary pin on his jacket when we met and I began to become interested in Rotary based on that interaction. Although you must be invited to become a member, you would be surprised how many people you see on a daily basis are members.
How can someone else get involved?
I belong to Rotary of San Jose, but there are hundreds of different clubs throughout Florida. Go to www.rotary.org to find the club nearest you.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
Service above self. Lawyers, and Rotarians, are busy people. I’ve found that if I don’t “carve out” time for things like Rotary or my church (St. Johns Cathedral), it just won’t happen, and that is a shame no matter how you look at it. Joining organizations, like Rotary International, that help people less fortunate than you takes time, and if you don’t schedule it, you’ll never show up for the appointment.
What was the last book you read or are reading?
“Pirate Latitudes” by Michael Crichton. I’m all about easy reading away from work.
