They are reassured that hard work will get them through

Passing the Bar exam and being sworn in as an attorney are milestone moments in the lives of many, but success will require a lot of hard work.

This was the message given to the latest group of attorneys to take the oath of attorney in Jacksonville by U.S. District Judge Timothy Corrigan.

“Our profession is going through difficulties the likes of which it hasn’t seen in many years,” said Corrigan. “This is a challenging time, but I know you are up to it. I know the country is up to it. It’s not going to be easy. It may mean you have to work harder or wait a little longer to be successful. The difficulty and opportunity are going to be there.”

Regardless of the future, Corrigan recognized what the group of 22 had achieved up to the day they stepped into the courtroom to take the oath.

“The thing that you are going to accomplish today after I give this oath is a major accomplishment,” said Corrigan. “It means you are joining an honorable and noble profession whose purpose is to help people. People come to you with their hardest, most difficult problems and you are expected to solve them. I hope this is why you chose this profession.”

There are two ceremonies each year after the two Bar exams. The federal and state courts share duties in hosting the ceremonies. The fall ceremony will be held at the Duval County Courthouse.
