The final two performances of this season’s Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra-Weaver Family Foundation Student Education Series filled the Robert E. Jacoby Symphony Hall at the Times-Union Center Tuesday.
More than 30,000 students from second grade through high school from Duval, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties attended the programs and another 5,000 students were seated at the 2009 performances of “The Nutcracker.”
The symphony also travels to schools to present an ensemble program and the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra enrolls more than 600 young musicians each year.
It’s all part of the orchestra’s annual effort to share the classical musical experience with area youth, said JSYM Manager of Education and Community Programs Tony Kamnikar.
The rest of the month will be busy for the orchestra with the “Major/Minor” concert Friday evening, “The Music of Pink Floyd” Saturday and “Pictures at an Exhibition” May 13-15 followed by “Cirque de la Symphonie” May 21-22.
