• Mayor John Peyton and Cliff Johnson, executive director for the National League of Cities’ Institute for Youth, Education and Families, will announce the city’s participation in the Mayors’ Action Challenge for Children and Families today. Peyton will set targets in four key areas: providing opportunities to learn and grow; ensuring a safe neighborhood to call home; promoting healthy lifestyles and a healthy environment; and supporting financially fit families in which children can thrive.

• The JEDC’s Film and Television Office permitted 19 productions in the first quarter, creating 289 jobs and generating an economic impact of $584,340. Productions included national commercials for Shoney’s and Lending Tree; an episode of the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives”; production of the “VEER!” independent film; and a production of FOX Network’s “America’s Most Wanted.”

• The annual Mayor’s Environmental Luncheon will highlight successes by local environmental groups at 11:30 a.m May 21 at the Main Library. This year’s theme focuses on attracting “green” businesses to Jacksonville. Tickets are $25. Call 630-3690.
