• JAXUSA Partnership presented its annual international awards at its quarterly meeting Tuesday at the Hyatt Downtown. Coach was named the international business leader of the year among large companies; Beaver Street Fisheries was named international business leader of the year among smaller companies; and Florida Rep. Lake Ray was named the individual international business leader of the year. Holland & Knight Partner George Gabel was honored as International Business Leader of the Decade for his service, including his leadership as the JAX Chamber International chair.
• The First Coast Manufacturers Association selected officers and committee chairs for the 2012 term. The tri-chairmen are Michael Corrigan of Nu-Trend Plastics; Carlos Zanoelo of Gerdau; and Gary Frost of Georgia-Pacific Corp.
• Rich Shlafer joined LBA Certified Public Accountants as a tax partner. Before joining LBA, he was a tax partner in the firm of Degnan & Shlafer CPAs and partner-in-charge of tax services of the Jacksonville office of Coopers & Lybrand, now Pricewaterhouse-Coopers.
• The JAX Chamber plans a “Business Growth Series” workshop from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 14 at its Downtown headquarters. Called “Time management: a journey, not a destination,” the workshop is part of the chamber’s monthly series of business workshops. There is no charge.
