Local sales down slightly

The Jacksonville area showed a slight decrease in home sales over last year, according to statistics compiled by Florida Realtors.

The state association’s numbers for March showed a one percent drop over March 2010 with 1,294 sold this year compared to 1,303. Statistics were compiled from reports by local associations.

Home prices were off as well, an 11 percent decline with March 2011 sales averaging $126,300 compared to $141,400.

Condo sales were up 20 percent in the Jacksonville area with 241 sold compared to 201. Prices were down seven percent.

Florida home sales showed a 12 percent gain over the same month last year with 18,522 sold for a 12 percent increase. Prices remained on a downward trend, as the average home was off seven percent with an average of $126,300.

Several areas reported large gains in home sales. The Miami area was up 59 percent, Panama City reported a 42 percent increase and the Melbourne area, which includes Titusville and Palm Bay, was up 40 percent.

Prices were up only in the Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers and Fort Pierce areas.
