As our community continues to face a tight economy and shrinking budgets, the Daily Record has established this page that will each week chronicle the efforts of local nonprofit organizations. Bailey Publishing & Communications invites all members of the local nonprofit community to submit news, announcements, success stories and any other information they believe would be of interest to our readers. E-mail to: [email protected].

We also encourage our readers to become more aware of the needs of these worthy organizations as they try to continue to provide valuable services with reduced resources.

Golf tournament raises money to help youth

The Daniel “Soiree on the Fairway” and charity golf tournament raised more than $120,000 to help the children in crisis served by Daniel, Florida’s oldest child-service agency.

“The venue was beautiful and the sponsors and attendees were so generous,” said Jim Clark, CEO and president of Daniel.

“With government funding continually shrinking and the demand for our services ever rising, events like these are critical in filling the gap so we can continue to bring quality care to the local abused, neglected and emotionally troubled kids we help,” he said.

The format and location of Daniel’s 11th annual golf tournament changed this year because of a new partnership with TPC Sawgrass.

The night before the tournament, golfers and Daniel supporters gathered at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse for the Soiree, which included appetizers, refreshments and entertainment by The Improv Effect. The next day, golfers hit the links on the Dye’s Valley Course.

Daniel kids weren’t the only winners at the April 7-8 event. A drawing for a European vacation trip for four was launched a month earlier, with the winner chosen at the close of the golf tournament.

Neil Von Stein was the winner, but his wife might attribute the win to the luck surrounding the event’s chair, Steve Carter, Daniel board member and vice president of Florida Pension Group. She asked Carter to kiss the ticket for luck before she dropped it in the locked drawing box.

The money raised will benefit local programs that serve the abused, abandoned and emotionally troubled children served by Daniel.

Originally established as an orphanage in 1884, Daniel has evolved into a multiservice agency that assists more than 1,000 children, adolescents and families each day with a variety of innovative and nationally recognized programs.

Brewer supports United Way

Anheuser-Busch and its charitable foundation contributed almost $110,000 this year to support United Way of Northeast Florida.

This spring, the local chapter received a $50,589 check from the Anheuser-Busch Foundation. Along with employee donations of $53,886 that were collected last year and $4,576 from an employee golf tournament, local contributions from the brewer in the past year total $109,051.

The donations will be used to support local health and human service programs through nonprofit agencies.

“Anheuser-Busch and our employees take great pride in our local community,” said manager Steve Foppe. “At a time when many of our neighbors in Jacksonville are struggling, we’re fortunate to be able to lend a helping hand.”

The Anheuser-Busch Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Anheuser-Busch, donating funds to hundreds of charities each year in communities across the country.

United Way of Northeast Florida seeks to improve people’s lives by creating lasting changes in conditions that affect its communities.

United Way works with local business, government, nonprofits, faith-based groups and individuals to define and address the most pressing problems.

At the same time, United Way continues its tradition of helping area residents meet basic health and human service needs by supporting innovative programs that have positive, measurable outcomes.

Anheuser-Busch and the Anheuser-Busch Foundation have donated nearly $475 million to charitable organizations since 1997, including those that support the environment, economic development and education, as well as disaster preparedness and relief and support of those who serve the country. Additionally, Anheuser-Busch employees make a difference in the communities where they live and work through local volunteerism and fundraising efforts.

Based in St. Louis, Anheuser-Busch is the leading American brewer, holding a 48.3 percent share of U.S. beer sales to retailers. The company brews the world’s largest-selling beers, Budweiser and Bud Light. Anheuser-Busch also owns a 50 percent share in Grupo Modelo, Mexico’s leading brewer.

Anheuser-Busch is a major manufacturer of aluminum cans and has been a leading aluminum recycler for more than 30 years. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev, the leading global brewer, and continues to operate under the Anheuser-Busch name and logo.

Car wash raises $5,000 for research

CarbuX Car Wash raised more than $5,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at the grand opening of its Beach Boulevard location.

“Our original goal was to raise more than $2,500 for cystic fibrosis research through this initiative,” said Andrew Jaffa, co-owner of CarbuX Car Wash along with his father, Jimmy Jaffa.

“We are thrilled to have doubled that original goal, and that the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will benefit from the much-needed funds and increased awareness,” he said.

During the grand opening, every customer was offered a free car wash with an optional donation of $5 or $10 (regular price $15). The proceeds were donated to the North Florida Chapter of CFF.

CarbuX Car Wash has been committed to giving back to the community through its long-standing FUNdraising program, which has raised more than $40,000 for hundreds of local nonprofits since its inception in 2007.

Massage Envy partners with Dreams Come True

During May, Massage Envy of Northeast Florida will donate a portion of all sales to Dreams Come True, the First Coast’s only locally based nonprofit organization dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of local children with life-threatening illnesses.

Last year, Massage Envy raised more than $12,000, enough to fulfill the dreams of three children.

“We are honored to be partnered with Dreams Come True for the second year in a row. Last year’s fundraiser was such a rewarding experience and we are looking forward to doing it again,” said Sue Kowalewski, regional developer for Massage Envy.

“Massage Envy’s focus is helping people achieve optimum wellness both physically and mentally. So it is very fitting for us to be supporting the dreams of seriously ill children, which can have an incredible effect on the healing process,” she said.

The promotion runs until May 31. There will be a celebration

and final check presentation

June 18 at a Jacksonville Suns baseball game.

All of the Massage Envy clinics are open seven days a week, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Walk-ins are welcome; however, appointments are recommended.
