The City Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Commission and Solid Waste Division will host a household hazardous waste and e-waste mobile collection event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Normandy Park.
Normandy Park is at 1728 Lindsey Road.
The event is the only mobile collection event remaining this year and also replaces the 2012 household hazardous waste and e-waste mobile collection event usually held in the spring at Crystal Springs Park.
Residents of Jacksonville and Duval County are encouraged to dispose of hazardous waste at mobile collection events to prevent the materials from consuming space in the landfill or causing harm to the local environment.
The items are collected only from Duval County residents. Businesses should check for available recycling centers to arrange for the recycling and disposal of any hazardous wastes or e-wastes.
Also, cell phones, chargers and iPods will be collected for donation to the Hubbard House shelter, which recycles or refurbishes them, and gently worn or new shoes will be collected for donation to Soles4Souls, which delivers them to people in need.
Household hazardous wastes cannot be collected curbside with regular trash. Residents can bring the items to the mobile collection event or take them to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2675 Commonwealth Ave., which is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
The types of waste that can be brought to the mobile event or to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility include:

City plans recyclables collection Tuesday
The City, Keep Jacksonville Beautiful and Southland Recycling Services plan Keep America Beautiful’s second annual America Recycles Day Tuesday.
From 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Osborn Center, residents can bring recyclables to the event.
In 2010, the partnering agencies collected more than 23,000 pounds of paper, plastic and aluminum products, which is used for the production of new goods instead of being taken to a landfill.
This year, traditional recyclables will be collected along with used cell phones, iPods and chargers, gently worn shoes and teacher supplies.
The event is for Jacksonville and Duval County residents only. Commercial and business recyclables will not be accepted. Other than cell phones and chargers, no electronic waste will be accepted at this event.
No liquids or household hazardous will be accepted. Residents can take those items to the city’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday at 2675 Commonwealth Ave.
Directional signage will be posted Tuesday at the Osborn Center, 1000 Water St. Downtown. Residents can pull through the loop to drop off materials or park in the main parking area, on the west side of the building along Bay Street, and carry materials to the drop-off area.
Southland Recycling Services will have equipment on site to collect recyclables for processing and to shred paper documents.
Additionally, cell phones, iPods and chargers will be collected for donation to Hubbard House for refurbishing or recycling; gently worn shoes will be collected for donation to Soles4Souls, which provides shoes to people in need; the Florida Department of Environmental Protection will collect plastic grocery bags; and the Teacher Supply Depot will be collecting items for Duval County Public Schools, teachers and students.
