I am also honored to be involved with the Fourth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee. As an alumnus, I have continued to serve on the University of North Florida Pre-Law Board of Advisors where I have the opportunity to interact with many of the best and brightest students at UNF.

Community involvement: JALA’s Pro Bono and “Ask-A-Lawyer” Program.

How did you get involved?
I originally got involved because I wanted to handle more appellate cases and pro bono appeals were one way to do that. Kathy Para with JALA was also happy to let me know about pro bono opportunities at the trial level and in the community. One community-based program, “Ask-A-Lawyer,” involves a group of attorneys going out into the community to give local residents a free “walk-in” consultation on a wide variety of practice areas.

How can someone else get involved?

What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
It was a very rewarding experience to be able to help people with their problems. By the time you get the case, the clients’ problems have already created a tremendous strain on their lives. Everyone has been overly appreciative and you know that you have been able to make a positive impact in someone’s life.

What was the last book you read or are reading?
“Medium Raw” by Anthony Bourdain.
