As our community continues to face a tight economy and shrinking budgets, the Daily Record has established this feature that will each week chronicle the efforts of local nonprofit organizations.

Bailey Publishing & Communications invites all members of the local nonprofit community to submit news, announcements, success stories and any other information they believe would be of interest to our readers. Email submissions to: [email protected].

We also encourage our readers to become more aware of the needs of these worthy organizations as they continue to provide valuable services with reduced resources.

Credit union supports United Way

Community First Credit Union of Florida surpassed its goal by raising more than $39,000 for the United Way in Jacksonville.

As part of its planned philanthropic contributions for 2011-12, Community First’s Employee Engagement Committee set a goal to raise $30,000 for the United Way.

“We realized that, especially in this turbulent economic environment, this was an ambitious goal, but we were confident in our employees’ desire to meet this challenge,” said Community First CEO John Hirabayashi.

Employees participated in fundraising activities and committed set amounts from their monthly incomes to help raise the money.

Community First’s Engagement Committee also implemented other opportunities for staff to donate funds, such as letting staff contribute the value of vacation time.

The money raised will assist the United Way in achieving its goals of helping families improve education, maintain financial stability and promote healthy living.

Community First also participated in other philanthropic events, including stuffing holiday stockings for the Salvation Army, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Light the Night” and other programs.

“The range of charitable organizations we support is another testament to how everyone at Community First is committed to supporting the communities we serve,” Hirabayashi said.
