With the opening of the new Duval County Courthouse in just four months, lawyers and legal staff have been invited for an informational session about parking options.
Substantial completion of the new Duval County Courthouse is scheduled for May 14. Once the tenants move in, they and their customers will need places to park.
The Clerk of Court has held a meeting for employees and will host a similar meeting for the legal community at noon Jan. 25 at the Courthouse Annex.
“It was so well received by the employees we thought it would be a good thing to offer to the attorneys and staffs, and they have contacted us about setting one up,” said Mike Riley, assistant to the Clerk of Court.
Court Clerk Jim Fuller wants those who need parking to know their options.
“Parking is a problem at (the current) courthouse, and we will probably still have a problem Downtown when we move in,” said Fuller.
“We are just trying to get everyone together to figure out who is going to park where. May is coming pretty quick,” he said.
The “Parking Vendor Meet and Greet” will bring together parking operators Metropolitan Parking Solutions, U-Park and JTA with attorneys and legal staff.
The JTA will provide information about the Kings Avenue and convention center lots and how those can be used with the Skyway, said Riley.
About 300 people had signed up for the meeting as of Tuesday.
“We’ve had a good response so far and we might have to split it into two meetings, depending on the response,” said Riley.
