• Cynthia Hack has been named controller of Fleet Landing, a nonprofit continuing care retirement community in Atlantic Beach. She will oversee the community’s business office and financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll and general ledger maintenance. Hack previously served as the controller and financial officer for San Jose Country Club and also has worked for Global and Diamond Support Services and The Jim King Companies.
• Carnival Cruise Lines will continue to call on Jacksonville’s Dames Point cruise terminal after signing a one-year contract with the Jacksonville Port Authority on June 1. The contract includes the option to extend the contract to 2014. The contract includes a revenue guarantee for the port of $2.31 million in passenger service charges for the first year and $2.94 million for the option year.
• The JPA board of directors approved a contract for external auditing services with McGladrey LLP for three years at $214,990, with two one-year renewal options. McGladrey was one of six companies that submitted proposals. It has 70 offices throughout the world with one in Jacksonville.
• Josh Woolsey, an associate attorney with the Rogers Towers firm, has become a board member of Communities In Schools of Jacksonville. Woolsey, who served as an assistant state attorney, has a background in law and politics. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Central Florida. He received his law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law.
• Mediterranean Shipping Co., a leading global shipping line, has begun a new direct weekly service between Jacksonville’s Talleyrand Marine Terminal and the Central American ports of Santo Tomas de Castilla, Guatemala, and Puerto Cortez, Honduras. Among the principal commodities the nations trade with the U.S. are agricultural products, such as bananas, vegetables, coffee and shrimp, and textiles, garments and minerals. Guatemala and Honduras also are significant export markets for U.S. products such as agricultural machinery, chemicals, building materials and general consumer merchandise.
• The JEA utility issued an invitation to bid for local courier services to provide local deliveries, within 50 miles of JEA headquarters at 21 W. State St. Downtown, of U.S. mail, interoffice correspondence, laboratory samples and other items between JEA and St. Johns River Power Park facilities, U.S. mail centers and other local entities. • Kickoff for the 68th Annual TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl is scheduled at noon Jan. 1 at EverBank Field. It will pair the fifth selection after the BCS from the Southeastern Conference and the third selection after the BCS from the Big Ten Conference. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
