• Former President Bill Clinton will attend an invitation-only event at 11 a.m. today at the Times-Union Center hosted by Mayor Alvin Brown. His focus is jobs and the economy. Clinton served as the nation’s 42nd president and founded the William J. Clinton Foundation with the mission to improve global health, strengthen economies, promote healthier childhoods and protect the environment. Brown is a former senior adviser to Clinton.
• The Jacksonville Jaguars announced the 2012 Team Teal rally schedule across Northeast Florida. The events are free and open to the public. They are scheduled 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Nassau County at the Atlantic Recreation Center in Fernandina Beach; 6-8 p.m. May 24 in St. Johns County at the World Golf Hall of Fame IMAX Theater; 6-8 p.m. June 14 in Clay County at Moose Haven in Orange Park; and 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 15 in Duval County at the Jacksonville Zoo at the Range of the Jaguar exhibit. • First Coast News reporter Ken Amaro presented a program at Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach offering tips to seniors on how to protect themselves from scams. Fleet Landing is a continuing care retirement community. Amaro detailed the current trends targeting seniors in the area, provided tips on identifying the warning signs of potential scams and offered advice on what to do if con artists attempt to take advantage of seniors.
• The 20th Annual Small Business Week Celebration is scheduled 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. May 24 at the University of North Florida University Center. The keynote speaker is author Dan Roam. • Mayor Alvin Brown announced appointments to the Jacksonville Children’s Commission board, pending City Council approval. Each will serve a four-year term with the ability to be reappointed for a final four-year term. There are eleven voting members, one from each of the seven school districts and four at-large appointments. The appointees are Ju’Coby Pittman, president and CEO of the Clara White Mission; Paul Martinez, owner and operator of Martinez Advertising Group; Craig Gibbs, managing partner of the Law Office of Craig Gibbs; and Matthew Kane, owner and operator of Greenshades Software.
• LBA Certified Public Accountants announced that Bob Mc-Kendry was named partner of LBA Retirement Plan Services LLC. He joined the firm in 2009 as director. McKendry has more than 30 years of experience in pension plan consulting, working for third-party administrative and daily valuation companies.
