Kangaroo Express is changing the signs on its Duval County fuel and convenience stores because of a fuel supplier agreement signed in June with Valero Energy Corp.
Spokesman Scott Yates said Kangaroo Express chose Valero to replace Chevron and Texaco as the fuel supplier at more than 160 Kangaroo Express owned and operated sites.
He said customers will see Valero and Kangaroo Express on the fuel island canopy and pricing signs. The City has been approving dozens of signs in recent weeks.
Yates said about 128 Kangaroo Express stores in Florida with Chevron/Texaco fuel are being converted to Valero.
Of those, 37 are in Duval County.
He said the rebranding is taking place through October.
Kangaroo Express is the primary operating banner of The Pantry Inc., based in Cary, N.C.
As of Aug. 6, The Pantry operated 1,589 stores in 13 states under banners that include Kangaroo Express.
The Pantry’s stores offer fuel and other goods and services aimed at the convenience needs of customers.
Convenience Store News reported June 18 that Valero signed a branding agreement with The Pantry Inc. that would spread the Texas company’s flag throughout the Southeast.
Convenience Store News said under the new agreement, 143 properties will convert to a Valero and Kangaroo Express co-branded banner across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. Another 25 sites in Florida will be branded with Valero’s standard teal and gold image, according to a Valero release.
Convenience Store News said the move will bring Valero’s coast-to-coast network to nearly 5,400 retail and wholesale branded outlets. Valero also entered into an unbranded supply agreement with The Pantry to supply additional unbranded sites in Florida.
Valero is based in San Antonio.
Chevron is based in San Ramon, Calif., and merged with Texaco in 2001.
Lost Lake Apartments OK’d
The City approved construction of the 280-unit Lost Lake Apartments, at 8681 A.C. Skinner Parkway in Southside. The contractor is LandSouth Construction LLC, which is building the 16 apartment buildings and amenities at a cost of $14.5 million.
Brooks also putting up its name
Speaking of signs, at least seven for Brooks Rehabilitation at Bartram Park were approved along Brooks Bartram Drive. The contractor is Taylor Sign & Design Inc. and the project cost is $147,567.
Target, Dollar General expand
• The City approved renovations for the Target store at 10490 San Jose Blvd. to include a Starbucks coffee shop as well as new freezers and coolers, new market cases on sales floor and new décor. Batson-Cook Co. is the contractor for the $900,000 project.
• The construction permit was approved for a Dollar General store at 13807 N. Main St. The Hatch Group LLC will build the 9,026-square-foot store, as well as handle demolition, site work and utilities, at a cost of $450,000, according to the permit.
