• The JAX Chamber's next Business Growth Series workshop — "How to get and keep a customer — for life!" — is scheduled 1-3 p.m. May 15 at the BBVA Compass Bank Building at 10060 Skinner Lake Drive near the St. Johns Town Center. The facilitator is Jennifer Holland, president of Holland People & Brands. The workshop will is free for chamber members and $20 for non-chamber members. • Ajax Building Corp. will be the construction manager for a $6 million clubhouse and pool at the University of North Florida campus. The facility will offer amenities to resident students. It will consist of a two-story, 15,000-square-foot building and will include space for a game lounge, laundry, kitchen, office and multipurpose media rooms. The estimated completion date is March.

• The Florida Theatre board of directors has added Renee Finley and Dr. Christine Granfield. Finley is Florida Blue vice president of innovation and market research and formerly was the City director of public-private partnerships before returning to the private sector. Granfield is the director of breast imaging for MBB Radiology, which has 10 Jacksonville locations. She serves on the company's strategic planning and business development committee.

• Joe Louis Barrow Jr., CEO of The First Tee nonprofit, and Willard Payne, president of Northern Florida Recruiting & Consulting Services, have joined the board of the Jacksonville University Public Policy Institute. The 25-member advisory board was established last year. Barrow is the son of famed boxer Joe Louis and has more than 40 years of business, marketing and public relations experience. Payne directs professional recruiting, consulting and lobbying client services. After 14 years with the Chicago Public School System as a teacher and district administrator, he left in 1975 when he was awarded several McDonald's Corp. franchises in Jacksonville. He was the first African-American franchise operator in the city and built four stores, hiring more than 500 employees.

• The Rev. Kyle Reese, senior pastor at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, has been elected to serve on the Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville board of directors. Reese was a member of the Leadership Jacksonville Class of 2008, member of the Leadership Florida Class of 2010, is chair-elect of the OneJax Institute of the University of North Florida and is vice president of the Rotary Club of San Marco.
