• City Council seeks nominations for the 2013 Robert O. Johnson Good Government Award, presented annually to a City employee who has demonstrated a sustained and significant contribution to the City or its independent agencies. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. May 31. For information, visit the Council Web page at coj.net.

• The City Downtown Investment Authority meets at 2 p.m. today in the Don Davis Room at City Hall. The agenda includes discussion of Downtown Vision Inc.'s budget, the authority's CEO selection, its mission statement and the Request for Proposals for Hemming Plaza's operation and maintenance. The authority's nominating committee for officers meets at 1 p.m. The board will vote on the slate at the 2 p.m. meeting.

• The Jacksonville Children's Commission Executive Director Search Committee will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday at the commission's campus, 1095 A. Philip Randolph Blvd. For information, contact Leticia Burns at (904) 630-7270 or [email protected].

• The International Center for Religion & Diplomacy, a Washington, D.C.-based nongovernmental organization that uses common religious principles to enhance diplomacy in conflict areas, has named Richard Poirer of Jacksonville to the board. He is a member of the Trega Partners LLC private investment firm and a former general partner and managing director of Lazard Freres LLC.

• Wilfredo Gonzalez, U.S. Small Business Administration district director, and Edward Waters College President Nat Glover will sign a strategic alliance memorandum at 3 p.m. Thursday at the college. The memo will represent an effort by the SBA and the college to promote small business through education and community outreach. It also allows the entities to work together to ensure small minority business interests are adequately addressed in the area.

• Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Gene Youngblood to the Commission for Independent Education. Youngblood was one of three appointed to the board and is the founder and president of Conservative Theological University. He succeeds Marvin Royce for a term that began Friday and ends June 30, 2015. The commission has responsibilities for matters relating to nonpublic, postsecondary educational institutions.

• Charlie Tomm, president and CEO of The Brumos Companies, is the newest board member of the Mayo Clinic board of trustees. Tomm also serves as director of Florida Bank Group in Tampa.

• Junior Achievement will host its "Hall of Fame" event at noon June 6 at EverBank Field to honor Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan. Duval County Public Schools Superintendent Nikolai Vitti will be the keynote speaker and the 15th Annual Baker Award will be presented to a Jacksonville entrepreneur. • Adam Brandon has joined Rogers Towers as an associate in its litigation department and will practice in the firm's Ponte Vedra office. Brandon previously served in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's Corp. as the command judge advocate at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, where he led a legal team that provided general counsel advice to the installation commanding officer and 110 major and mid-level commands.
