Safe Harbor Seafood applied to the city to build a two-phase office-warehouse at a construction cost of $3.25 million at its Mayport center.
The project at Safe Harbor’s 4432 Ocean St. operation calls for a first-phase construction of a 20,000-square-foot warehouse at a cost of $2.5 million and a second-phase 4,600-square-foot office and mezzanine at a cost of $750,000.
F&G Construction General Contractors Inc. is the contractor and Vermey Architect is the designer.
Miss Becky Seafood Inc. is the corporate name and does business as Safe Harbor Seafood.
As reported Sept. 5, the seafood distributing landmark plans to modernize the distribution center that sits across Ocean Street from its popular restaurant and market.
Gerald Pack, owner of Miss Becky Seafood Inc., said then that part of the operation will be taken down and a new center built in its place.
Plans filed with the St. Johns River Water Management District show the existing operation comprises two adjacent buildings – an office-warehouse and a warehouse.
The combined building area of 59,231 square feet sits on 4.5 acres.
Plans show the office-warehouse will be removed and a 24,500-square-foot addition will be built next to the warehouse. The building total will be 53,617 square feet.
Pack said he wants the business to remain open during construction.
