Zoës Kitchen joining St. Johns Town Center
Zoës Kitchen, with locations in Riverside and Ponte Vedra, plans its next Jacksonville restaurant in St. Johns Town Center.
The Birmingham, Ala.-based chain features Mediterranean-inspired food, including hummus, grilled and pita sandwiches, roll-ups, kabobs, salads and more.
Zoës wants to renovate the former Qdoba Mexican Grill at 4624 Town Crossing Drive in the Town Center for a 122-seat restaurant with indoor and patio seating.
The renovation is shown as a $340,000 project on a building permit application.
Zoës has area restaurants at 1661 Riverside Ave. and in Ponte Vedra at 240 Florida A1A. Hours are 10 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. Its website, zoeskitchen.com, shows at least 56 restaurants operate in 15 states.
Zoës means "life" in Greek.
BurgerFi, Visionworks site work underway in Town Center
BurgerFi will join Visionworks as tenants at the Rimrock Devlin retail project at The Markets at Town Center at St. Johns Town Center.
Rimrock Devlin Development is a partnership of Wallace Devlin of Jacksonville and Micah Linton of Lake City.
The Daily Record reported Aug. 9 that Rimrock Development LLC was cleared to build the $950,000 retail building. The city approved the permit for Simque Construction to build a 7,500-square-foot building shell at 4890 Big Island Drive.
Tenant build-out will be approved separately.
Rimrock Development, based in Lake City, is the manager of Town Center Pad T LLC, which bought the property, about a half-acre, for $2 million June 7 and took out a $2.4 million mortgage the same day from The Jacksonville Bank.
BurgerFi, based in North Palm Beach, has built a menu with specialty items like Angus burgers, a crisp quinoa burger, Kobe beef hot dogs, gourmet toppings, desserts, craft beer and wine "and an overall focus on a healthier menu selection."
Krispy Kreme planning Arlington location
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc., the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based chain that registered the name "Original Glazed" for its signature doughnut, is targeting Arlington for a new location.
Site plans filed with the city show a 2,600-square-foot Krispy Kreme, with a drive-thru, is proposed at 7612 Merrill Road, next to Kingstree Drive West and not far from the Interstate 295 East Beltway.
The site is undeveloped.
JDL Castle Corp. of Winston-Salem is shown as the developer and Taylor & White Inc. of Jacksonville is the project civil engineer.
Krispy Kreme has three area locations — in East Arlington/West Beaches at 12973 Atlantic Blvd., in Mandarin at 11117 San Jose Blvd. and in West Jacksonville at 810 Cassat Ave.
The Cassat Avenue site was a reconstruction. Krispy Kreme operated there for 35 years before closing in 2005. It demolished the structure, rebuilt and opened May 28.
The 76-year-old company has more than 785 locations in 22 countries.
Krispy Kreme PR and Media Manager Lafeea Watson said Wednesday by email that details haven't been completed for the Merrill Road store, but the company is happy about expanding its presence in Jacksonville.
"It has been a fantastic market for us," Watson said, encouraging people to follow the company on Facebook, at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, for updates.
Popeyes, Jimmy John's among new projects
The city approved permits for two restaurants:
• Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is renovating its restaurants at 10132 San Jose Blvd. and 649 McDuff Ave. S. Diversified Commercial Builders is the contractor for the projects, which total almost $313,000.
• Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches will open at 11616 San Jose Blvd. Dakenna Development Inc. is building out the space at a project cost of $358,146.
Subway plans Kings Road location
The city is reviewing a permit for a Subway restaurant at 1963 Kings Road. William Silcox Jr. is the contractor for the interior build-out, shown as a $50,000 project for 1,950 square feet of space.
Waffle House applies for Lem Turner site
Waffle House Inc. filed for a permit to build a restaurant at 11844 Lem Turner Road, near the Interstate 295 West Beltway. It's a $210,000 project to build the 1,635-square-foot diner.
Wendy's building in Argyle
Wendy's intends to put up a new restaurant at 6021 Argyle Forest Blvd. No contractor is specified for the 3,106-square-foot building, shown at a project cost of $700,000.
