Cost Plus World Market intends to relocate its Mandarin store to Riverplace Shopping Center.

World Market operates three stores in the Jacksonville area. The other two are in the Regency area of Arlington and Jacksonville Beach.

The city is reviewing a permit application for an $850,000 project to renovate almost 22,000 square feet of space at 11111 San Jose Blvd., No. 5.

It is the site of a former Books-A-Million.

World Market will move across the street from the Claire Lane Center at 11112 San Jose Blvd.

Riverplace Shopping Center, which is south of Interstate 295, is anchored by Stein Mart on the south end and includes Petco, Staples and T.J. Maxx.

World Market will be near the north end of the strip retail development.

No contractor was identified on the application. The architect is MCG Architecture of Cleveland, Ohio.

According to worldmarket.com, the Oakland, Calif.-based company operates 267 stores in 31 states under the World Market and Cost Plus World Market trademarks.

The stores sell casual home décor and furnishings, housewares, gifts, jewelry, decorative accessories, more than 500 international wines, gourmet foods and beverages imported from more than 50 countries, according to the site.

"Many items are unique and exclusive to World Market and are regularly supplied by an international network of individual and regional artisans developed over the company's more than 50 years in the import business," it says.

Cost Plus World Market came to Jacksonville about 10 years ago. Its Claire Lane store opened in about 18,100 square feet of space.
