Mayor Alvin Brown has nominated Craig Gibbs as a new board member of the Downtown Investment Authority.

Gibbs was previously a member of the former Jacksonville Economic Development Commission.

He is a shareholder in the Law Office of Craig Gibbs, which is located in Riverplace Tower, Downtown along the Southbank.

Gibbs has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1987 and is a life member of the National Bar Association, The Jacksonville Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

He serves on the boards of the Jacksonville Children's Commission, the Clara White Mission, the AME Housing Agency of Florida and the International Visitors Corps of Jacksonville.

"The DIA is working hard to revitalize Downtown," said Mayor Alvin Brown. "Mr. Gibbs will be a strong addition to the DIA team as Chairman (Oliver) Barakat, CEO (Aundra) Wallace, and all of the board members lead the effort to bring economic activity to our city center, attract new Downtown residents and visitors, and increase the value of our Downtown properties."

If his nomination is approved by City Council, Gibbs would succeed Donald Harris, who accepted a job in Houston in October.

Gibbs' office said Wednesday he would not be available this morning for comment.
