More than 100 Jacksonville firefighters gathered Thursday at Fire Station No. 1 at 611 N. Liberty St. to honor the 22 city firefighters who have died in the line of duty since 1885. The name of each of those who died was read aloud, with the giant bell being struck once for each name after it was announced. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pipes and drum team performed during the ceremony.
