The Jacksonville City Council has introduced a resolution to commemorate 100 years of the National Association of Realtors Code of Ethics.
The national association was founded in Chicago in 1911 for the purpose of protecting buyers and sellers of real property through creating ethical and professional standards for brokers. That code was adopted in 1913 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The recognition also applies to the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors. The local chapter of the national organization was founded in Jacksonville in 1911 for the same purpose.
The code of ethics has at times been referred to as “the ‘golden thread’ uniting the Realtor family, has come to symbolize Realtors honor, integrity, services and professional competency,” according to the legislation.
“The City of Jacksonville hereby recognizes and commemorates the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Realtors and its nearly one million Realtor members and the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors and its nearly five thousand members who voluntarily committee to guide their professional lives by the Code’s duties and obligations,” the resolution reads.
The recognition was introduced Oct. 8 by council member Lori Boyer and should be approved later this month.
