Bolles students use technology to visit coral reefs

Students on the Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach and Whitehurst campuses went on a virtual field trip to Sarasota-based Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, an aquatic research facility.

Students gathered in classrooms equipped with special teleconferencing capabilities that linked the classroom with a lab at Mote Marine. There, Mote instructor Kasey Gaylor-Opalewski interacted with the students through live teleconferencing webcam technology that allowed her to answer students' questions, demonstrate marine science practices, play interactive games and show students real underwater coral reef locations.

The experience was funded by the Zimmerman Family Foundation.

Company that earned funding from Jaguars owner Shad Khan has successful pre-sale

One of the four One Spark companies that received funding from Jaguars owner Shad Khan's Stache Invesments Corp. is enjoying early success.

Original Fuzz ended its pre-sale after just 25 days, selling out of its Peruvian guitar strap pre-orders earlier than expected. The company is one of four startups participating in the KYN accelerator Downtown.

Original Fuzz produces guitar straps, bags and cables for musicians. Co-founders Lee McAlilly and Zach Lever launched the company in 2012 with the idea that guitar players would welcome high-quality, responsibly made gear.

The initial pre-sale proved the idea viable.

Original Fuzz is gearing up for a second pre-sale in early November. For more information, visit OriginalFuzz.com.
