Jacksonville’s Building Inspection Division, part of the city Planning and Development Department, earned accreditation from the International Accreditation Service, a subsidiary of the International Code Council.
The service sent a team of subject-matter experts and peer evaluators to twice visit the division, led by city Building Official Jim Schock, for “rigorous onsite evaluations” and determined it “has the competence to interpret, effectively administer and implement the adopted provisions of the building code.”
Review committee member Curtis Mann, former building official for New Orleans, said during the public hearing to consider the accreditation that the division “can serve as a model of best practices for other building departments seeking to improve their services through the accreditation process.”
